Glad your phone is working again.

What you did by pressing the home and sleep button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo came back, is called "force restart".

You will not lose data by doing this, but it can cure some glitches. It is usually the last thing to try before you restore the phone to factory settings again or visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, in case your phone does not work at all anymore.
